Puttin' my money where my mouth is, inviting you to do the same

I am not real familiar with this story, having heard about it only last week, and I haven't really researched it much. It was brought to my attention again on Red State:

http://biggovernment.com/2009/12/31/democrats-officially-kill-successful-dc-voucher-program/

I find it hard to imagine what possible reason there could be for not continuing this program. The answer I see most is that the teacher's unions are complaining, and since that is always what kills voucher programs here in LaLa Land, I'll go ahead and accept that explanation.

I was an instructional aid in the Lynwood School District here in California for several months; it was heartbreaking. I suspect the schools in DC are about the same as they were in Lynwood in the 80s.

I don't know a thing about this program, and for all I know they're crankin' out future Communists. (Joking, I'm joking!)

But I was taught to help the poor, regardless of their political affiliation, so I made a donation, and I'd like to share the link for your consideration.

Rock on, my jihadi-ass-kickin' brother, Commie though you are

Never in a million years did I ever think I'd be singing Vladimir Putin's praises on anything, but I'll give the devil his due here.....

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/p-j-gladnick/2009/12/30/ouch-putin-answer-about-terrorism-stuns-press-conference-silence

And THAT, President Obama, is how you deal with terrorism.

DA-YUMMMM, MA, how can you resist??

Okay, so it's an old picture, but he's still looking mighty fine!

AND he's a military man!
He is a 29-year member of the Massachusetts National Guard, where he currently holds the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. Brown was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service in homeland security following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.[7] LTC Brown has also completed Airborne school and been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
To heck with Senator from MA, how about President Brown in 2012???

I wonder if this will get any coverage??

No Rise of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction in Past 160 Years, New Research Finds
ScienceDaily (Dec. 31, 2009) — Most of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but is instead absorbed by the oceans and terrestrial ecosystems. In fact, only about 45 percent of emitted carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere.

Now we know why it took three days for Obambi to respond

They were lookin' for ways to make Bush look bad.

http://spectator.org/archives/2009/12/31/the-politics-of-incompetence

Seriously?? So what they're concerened about first and foremost is not the breakdown itself, but finding ways to make their mistakes look better than Bush 's??!!!

"The idea was that we'd show that the Bush Administration had had far worse missteps than we ever could," says a staffer in the counsel's office. "We were told that classified material involving anything related to al Qaeda operating in Yemen or Nigeria was fair game and that we'd declassify it if necessary."

Publish classified information, just to make a political point?! Are you fucking kidding me??

Their lack of maturity, their Chicago-thug politics, and their psycotic hatred of Bush is going to get us all killed.

I love Mark Steyn

A friend of mine from Sea Launch introduced me to Mr. Steyn several years agao, and he became my favorite political pundit.

Here's his latest on the Health Care issue:

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YjU5OTJmODE4MGM5YmNiZDEyZDU5ZWU3NThhYjdmNGY=

This administration has all the maturity of a 2nd grader

Cannot brook any criticism whatsoever, pitches little hissy fits when someone points out their faults, and can't even present any rational argument against the criticism. Not to mention incredibly stupid....does anyone doubt Dick Cheney, of all people, condemms terrorism??

If this administration went after terrorists as often and as quickly as they go after Palin, Cheney, and the right-wing bloggers, I'd have a lot more confidence in their ability to keep the country safe.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/White-House-takes-four-days-to-respond-to-terror-attack-but-responds-to-Cheney-in-matter-of-hours-80387322.html

Oh for God's sweet sake!!!

Islamic fanatics are sneaking on airplanes with God knows what kind of devices at alarming rates, and this administration is going after bloggers???

Jesus H. Christ, how many times did the fucking New York Times leak CLASSIFIED information, information that put the country and our troops at risk, and the Bush administration didn't go after them!

Way to show how seriously you take the terrorist threat, there, Obambi. It's clear who you see as the real enemy.

Check out the cartoon I posted futher down...... truly sad and devestatingly true.

I gotta say I agree with this

God knows I like to jump in his shit as much as possible when he deserves it, but I honestly don't begrudge him his vacation.

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NmVmMjIyYWNmMWJlNjlhYzdjYWE5ZTgwZGU2MmIyZmU=

And he looks like 8 different kinds of hell to me lately, has anyone else noticed??? He looks tired, pale, and skinny. I mean Lord have mercy, skinny. He was always slender, but I think he's really gotten damn near anorexic.

He deserves his vacation, and while I think he should have spoken on the attempted bombing a tad sooner, I see no need for him to cut his vacation short. It's not like he's really on vacation anyway.

I am reminded of how they hounded my darling W so much when he went to his ranch, and I refuse to do the same thing.

Rest up, Prez.....

All in favor of dropping "art rehabilitation therapy" for terrorists and going back to torture, please raise your hand

Yep, thought so. Me, too!

Guess they don't feel like they screwed us hard enough with the Health Care nightmare

Assume the position, boys and girls, just bend right over.....Comrade Obama didn't get enough.

Senior White House aides privately have assured Latino activists that the
president will back legislation next year to provide a path to citizenship
for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in
the United States.

I'm sure this has nothing to do with getting 12 million newly registered Democrats with one swoop of his pen.....

Dave Barry's 2009 Recap

Dave is probably the most hyserical man in America; I have everything he's ever written.

His recaps are always LOL funny, regardless of who is in office, but I thinkthis year's is even better than usual. He had plenty to skewer, on both sides of the aisle and in Hollywood, too.

http://www.miamiherald.com/283/story/1397654-p4.html

Please read the entire thing, but here are a few of my favorite snippets:

BAD NEWS: Ominous problems loomed abroad as -- among other difficulties -- the Afghanistan war went sour, and Iran threatened to plunge the Middle East and beyond into nuclear war.
GOOD NEWS: They finally got Roman Polanski.

Congress passes, without reading it, and without actually finishing writing it, a stimulus package totaling $787 billion. The money is immediately turned over to American taxpayers so they can use it to stimulate the economy.
No! What a crazy idea THAT would be! The money is to be doled out over the next decade or so by members of Congress on projects deemed vital by members of Congress, such as constructing buildings that will be named after members of Congress. This will stimulate the economy by creating millions of jobs, according to estimates provided by the Congressional Estimating Office's Magical Estimating 8-Ball.

The Obama administration's confirmation woes continue as Tom Daschle is forced to withdraw as nominee for secretary of Health and Human Services following the disclosure that he, too, failed to pay all of his federal taxes. He blames this oversight on the fact that his tax returns were prepared by Treasury Secretary Geithner.

In another embarrassment for the White House, New York is temporarily thrown into a panic when Air Force One flies low over Manhattan for a publicity photo shoot. Responding to widespread criticism, Gibbs notes that President Obama inherited Air Force One from the Bush administration.

Businessman Bernard Madoff pleads guilty to bilking investors out of $65 billion in a Ponzi scheme, forcing the Obama administration to withdraw his nomination for secretary of commerce.

In political news, the Minnesota Supreme Court, clearly exhausted by months of legal wrangling, declares Al Franken the winner of American Idol. Meanwhile the governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford, goes missing for six days; his spokesperson tells the press that the governor is ``hiking the Appalachian trail,'' which turns out to be a slang term meaning ``engaging in acts of an explicitly non-gubernatorial nature with a woman in Argentina.''

In government news, top Washington thinkers, looking for a way to goose the economy along, come up with the ``Cash for Clunkers'' program, under which the federal government provides a financial inducement for people to take functional cars, which are mostly American-made, to car dealers, who deliberately destroy these cars and sell the people new replacement cars, which are mostly foreign-made. This program, which was budgeted for $1 billion, ends up costing $3 billion and is halted after a month. The administration declares that it has been a huge success, which everybody understands to mean that it will never, ever be repeated. With this mission accomplished, the top Washington thinkers are free to train all of their brainpower on the nation's health-care system.

President Obama, in the first serious test of his presidency, announces that he will send U.S. troops to rescue Democratic members of Congress pinned down in town hall meetings by constituents firing hostile questions concerning the administration's health-care plan, which turns out not to be wildly popular outside of the immediate Capitol Hill area. The president dismisses concerns that his health-care agenda is in trouble, observing that ``there's something about August going into September where everybody in Washington gets all wee-weed up.'' White House spokesperson Gibbs explains that the ``vast majority'' of the wee-wee was inherited from the Bush administration.

In foreign affairs, former president Bill Clinton goes to North Korea to secure the release of two detained American journalists who purely by coincidence happen to be women

With public support for the administration's health-care plan continuing to slip, the president orders U.S. troops into Fox News, then goes on a media blitz, appearing, in a three-day span, on Meet the Press, Face the Nation, Meet the Nation, Face the Press, Press Your Face Against the Nation, Letterman, Leno, Judge Judy, Iron Chef and Dog the Bounty Hunter. The president also delivers a back-to-school speech to the nation's students, telling them to work hard and get a good education. Fortunately, thanks to the vigilance of the talk-radio community, many parents realize that this is some kind of secret socialist code message and are able to prevent their children from being exposed to it.

On the celebrity front, a remorseful David Letterman confesses to his stunned audience that he has been hiking the Appalachian Trail with female staff members.

a Washington couple, Tareq and Michaele Salahi, penetrate heavy security and enter the White House, a feat that Joe Biden has yet to manage.

In other White House news, the president, in a much-debated post-Thanksgiving decision, announces that he is sending U.S. troops into the electronics departments of 1,400 Best Buy stores to prevent Black Friday shoppers from killing each other over flat-screen TVs. Hours later the president withdraws the troops, calling the situation ``hopeless.'' Press Secretary Gibbs notes that the president inherited Black Friday from the Bush administration.

On the environmental front, Copenhagen hosts a massive international conference aimed at halting manmade global warming, attended by thousands of delegates who flew to Denmark on magical carbon-free unicorns.

In sports, roughly 40 percent of the U.S. bimbo population announces that it has at one time or another hiked the Appalachian Trail with Tiger Woods.

Sad but true......

Photobucket

Comrade Obama has just given Interpol full diplomatic immunity

http://threatswatch.org/analysis/2009/12/print/wither_sovereignty/

Which means: This international police force (whose U.S. headquarters is in the Justice Department in Washington) will be unrestrained by the U.S. Constitution and American law while it operates in the United States and affects both Americans and American interests outside the United States.

Boys and girls, this means that Dear Leader has just given Interpol rights that our own FBI and CIA do not have; it means if for some (admittedly unlikely) reason Interpol has an interest in hunting you down, they can do whatever the hell they feel like doing to you, and your home, without any restraint, and there's not a god-damned thing you can do about it. And need I remind you that the CIA cannot even deprive terrorists of sleep any more....but here Dear Leader has given a foreign police force complete immunity in their actions!

And all this safely tucked away in the Justice Department, per NRO: Why is it suddenly necessary to have, within the Justice Department, a repository for stashing government files which, therefore, will be beyond the ability of Congress, American law-enforcement, the media, and the American people to scrutinize?

We need to be screaming about this, folks....write and call your Senators and CongressCreatures.

Played for the sucker he is again....

Good thing he opted out of a missile defense shield, huh??? Naive dipshit....

My personal favorire Putin quote from this story, emphasis mine:

Mr Putin said Washington should share its missile defence plans
with Moscow
if it wanted to move forward on arms reduction talks, which
could see stoickpiles fall by over 1,000 warheads, leaving the countries with
about 1,500 each. "Let the Americans hand over all their information on missile
defence and we are ready to hand over all the information on offensive weapons
systems," he said.

How much you wanna bet Barry goes ahead and shares it???

Yep, that'll show 'em....

In resposne to the Underwear Bomber trying to light his crotch on fire in order to blow up a passenger plane for Allah, no one on international flights headed into the US will be allowed to walk around on a plane for the last 90 minutes.

But several airlines released detailed information about the restrictions,
saying that passengers on international flights coming to the United States will
apparently have to remain in their seats for the last hour of a flight without
any personal items on their laps. It was not clear how often the rule would
affect domestic flights.

I have read several accounts of this incident on many, many websites. All of them seem to state that Mr. Islam was seated while he ignited himself; the only person who got out of his seat was the gorgeous Dutch stud who stoppped the attack with his bare and no doubt Conservative hands, so I am not sure what this new rule will accomplish, other than the arrest of anyone attempting to foil a similar attack.

Have yourself a Barry little Christmas, complete with Mao

What a jackass. What an arrogant, clueless complete fucking asswipe.

Chairman Mao ornaments, and Barry's own face superimposed on Mt. Rushmore ornaments....oh, and a transvestite. Nice. Real nice.

The tranny doesn't bother me per se, but honestly, does he belong on the White House Christmas tree??

I realize the Obamas don't celebrate Christmas, but seriously, Chairman Mao?

Sad and shocking....especially given it had already happened once

The sublime thing about sports is how they bring people together, cutting across racial and national lines to highlight the essence of our shared humanity. Unless you happen to represent the Jewish State in modern-day Europe. Then fuck you:

The two Israelis won gold and bronze medals at the European Cup fencing tournament for under 17s. Dana Stralinkov, 14, won gold and Alona Komarov, 13 won bronze. But the Austrian official in charge of arranging the national anthems played when the winners went on the podium said he could not locate the recording of 'Hatikvah'. After a few minutes of silence, the two teens sang the Israeli anthem themselves, with no backing track.

Good for those girls, who knew what to expect after the same thing happened in Sweden. The Austrian official who approached the podium actually said that he had the old Israeli national anthem available, which was an interesting rhetorical gambit insofar as it's the only thing he could have said to decrease his credibility.

Unbelievable.

Lest we forget...

Though allowing deniers to give speeches about their denial at the UN, and being willing to negotiate with the government of nations who deny it are damn near as bad, IMHO.

Well done, Mr. President!!!

Lord knows I hand it to him good and hard when he pisses me off, but I will be the first to praise him when I like what he does!!!!

Haven't heard the speech, but I read through some of the transcrpit...God bless his heart, he does go and and on, but I loved most of it!

My favorite part:

But as a head of state sworn to protect and defend my nation, I cannot be guided by their examples alone. I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people.

For make no mistake: Evil does exist in the world. A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler's armies. Negotiations cannot convince al Qaeda's leaders to lay down their arms. To say that force may sometimes be necessary is not a call to cynicism -- it is a recognition of history; the imperfections of man and the limits of reason.

I raise this point, I begin with this point because in many countries there is a deep ambivalence about military action today, no matter what the cause. And at times, this is joined by a reflexive suspicion of America, the world's sole military superpower.

But the world must remember that it was not simply international institutions -- not just treaties and declarations -- that brought stability to a post-World War II world. Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms.

The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will. We have done so out of enlightened self-interest -- because we seek a better future for our children and grandchildren, and we believe that their lives will be better if others' children and grandchildren can live in freedom and prosperity.

I have never been so glad I don't have kids.

What's in your uterus right now is not a baby, it's a fetus

And then the good doctor tells her that abortion is safer than having a baby because women die having babies....

Scariest thing out of Washington yet....

I thought this was a joke when I first saw it this morning.

The government now thinks it can intrude itself upon how college football determines it's champion. And a freakin' REPUBLICAN sponsored this shit!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still hoping this is a joke, and I am hoping even harder that it won't go anywhere, but the way things are going, who the hell knows?

Coming on top of yesterday's news that the EPA can now regulate your every breath, it is staggering to me.

Liars and Hypocrites, and the Sheep who follow them

Even as the so-called scientists behind the Global Warming Hoax are being exposed as liars and worse, the sheep who believe all this swill are still putting on the circus in Copenhagen, and are making a mockery of their own warnings as they do so:

Copenhagen is preparing for the climate change summit that will produce as much carbon dioxide as a town with a population of 135,000.

A preview of what awaits us if the government takes over health care

Here in the People's Republic of California, we are getting the first taste of what will happen if the government starts running health care.

This DIRECTLY impacts poor women, whom I thought Dems were so keen on helping???

The eligibility age for state-subsidized breast cancer screening has been raised from 40 to 50 by the California Health and Human Services Agency, which will also temporarily stop enrollment in the breast cancer screening program.

Advocates for low-income women, whose health care the department helps pay for, say the cuts put a two-tier system in place that is based on money rather than medical standards.

The cuts will greatly harm the clinic's mammogram program, said Natasha Riley, manager of Vista Community Clinic's Breast Health Outreach and Education Program.

The clinic and others like it in San Diego County provide reduced-cost care, mostly to low-income people, with money from the state and some private donations.

"More than 50 percent of the women we give breast exams and mammograms to are in their 40s," Riley said. "The majority of our current breast cancer survivors are women in their 40s."

The state's decision, announced Dec. 1 and effective Jan. 1, follows a controversial federal recommendation last month that mammograms before the age of 50 are generally not needed.

However, the public health department also linked the change to California's budget woes.

The federal recommendation, made Nov. 16 by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, has encountered strong opposition.

The task force later retreated a bit, adjusting its recommendation to state that mammograms for women ages 40 to 49 should be considered by their doctors on an individual basis.

Moreover, private health care systems such as Scripps Health have rejected the federal task force's recommendation, choosing instead to keep the existing standard, which calls for a mammogram at age 40, with annual mammograms thereafter.

That means doctors will be using two medical practice guidelines, distinguished not by knowledge but by the pocketbook, said Dr. Jack Klausen, a gynecologist and obstetrician who practices at Vista Community Clinic.

"If we are in a situation where we don't screen, but the private-practice doctor can screen, then we are actually not practicing to the standard of care," Klausen said.

In its announcement, the state said the cuts were needed because of a projected budget shortfall for the California Department of Public Health, and from declining revenue from tobacco taxes.

However, it did not say how much money it expected to save.

Calls to the department were not returned Friday.

The policy puts lives at risk, said Barbara Mannino, CEO of Vista Community Clinic.

"I bet you everybody knows a woman who was diagnosed in her 40s, and her life was saved by a mammogram, or lost because it was too late," Mannino said, just before leaving for own mammogram.

And she said that little money would be saved, because all the equipment and staff to provide mammograms is already in place.

There is a difference of opinion in the medical community about when mammograms, an X-ray of the breast, should be used.

Mammograms sometimes give false alarms, with the incidence of false positives especially high for women in their 40s.

Estimates are that 10 percent to 15 percent of mammograms give false positives, experts say.

False negatives, in which the cancer is present but the mammogram seems normal, occurs 20 percent of the time, according to the National Cancer Institute.

However, false negatives become less frequent with age.

But the benefits in finding cancers when they are more easily treatable outweigh the drawbacks, Mannino and Klausen said.

And Scripps' breast cancer task force said that because 28 percent of women newly diagnosed with breast cancer are younger than 50, the number of lives saved outweighs the additional cost.

Klausen said the federal panel was trying "create a best-practices (standard) from a monetary point of view," to provide the most health care for all, out of a limited budget.

Women who get false positives on mammograms not only undergo stress, but they must go through other tests, only to find out there's nothing wrong.

That adds costs to the system without providing any better health care, according to the federal panel's reasoning.

However, Klausen said the state has taken that reasoning too far, putting too much emphasis on saving money.

"What makes me really worried is that the California Department of Public Health wants to save money by taking away a cancer-detection program," Klausen said. "That discriminates against a gender, and also discriminates against an income level. And it also discriminates against how community clinics can practice medicine."

Best analysis of the speech so far

What Obama Really Said Last Night
By John R. Guardiano on 12.2.09 @ 6:07AM

Last night, President Obama delivered an historic speech to the nation and to the world on his plans for Afghanistan. Here, in sum, is what the president said:

I really don't want to be commander-in-chief, but I'll do it if I have to -- at least for a little while, and then we'll see. Just so long as it doesn't cost too much, or take too long, or interfere with my plans to nationalize healthcare and fundamentally change America.

We Americans didn't ask for this war; and God knows I didn't either. But I'll certainly make sure we end this war, and soon. I have bigger fish to fry, after all. This war is a distraction from my domestic left-wing agenda and my need to bring "change" to America.

So Afghanis, get your act together. We'll help you for the next 18 months or so and then we're hightailing it out of here. I have to worry about other threats and other dangers. And, most importantly, I have to worry about healthcare and "change."

Yes, I know our soldiers and marines inspire confidence, while conveying an indomitable can-do spirit. But chalk that up to the naivety of youth.

I myself never served in the military, but let me tell you: These guys -- and especially the marines -- are a little nuts. I mean, they're all volunteers; they all believe deeply in America -- and in America as it is, and not in America as I will soon remake it -- and they all have this touching but wild-eyed optimism in America's ability to change the world.

But hey, I'm the president. I can't be swayed by the young idealists and optimists who enlist in and join the U.S. military. And you Afghanis shouldn't take our young people too seriously either. I don't care how much they help you and how much you come to like and admire them. They're all (well most of them anyhow) callow youth who fail to see the bigger picture.

The reality is that America can only do so much. Never mind that we put a man on the moon. Some things are just beyond our capacity; and helping your government and your people enter the 17th Century may be more than we Americans can handle. It's certainly more than I want to handle. What can I say? Life's tough. Deal with it.

Anyway, I have to get back to healthcare and domestic change. As I say, you have 18 months. Use it and lose it, Mohammed. Hopefully that'll be enough time for things to work out in your favor. If not, well, I'm sorry. At least everyone will know that we tried, and I can escape blame for losing. Later.

This is quite possibly the worst speech he has ever given

or, perhaps in a more fair way of looking at it, he picked the WORST possible place to give yet another apologetic, not-my-fault, and oh, by the way, your mission in Iraq was totally stupid, and a waste of time, even though we did win....

Does this asswipe not get that when he ridicules the war in Iraq, he is ridiculing those who fought it???? Does he not get that when he talks about the economy being more important than this war that he is TOTALLY SHITTING on the young people he is speaking before??????

And how in the FUCK can he talk about the security of the world being at stake, and then turn around and with his next breath say he's leaving in 18 months????

He only went to West Point for the photo op, just like he always does for anything military related....
